SOMA Housing Co-Op News

Freyda and David recently followed up on the contact Freyda had made with Sid. Sid owns land in Kidlington and wishes to sell the land and realise £1.8 million. Freyda and David went with Sid to look at the land which is adjacent to the river Cherwell in Kidlington. It is designated as Green Belt so technically speaking constructing new buildings is restricted. However there are some remnants of former building which should allow for some construction to take place.

Other issues to consider apart from the price for the land, is the location next to the river and in a flood plane. Not to be put off, the land could help us to achieve some of our targets and provide homes for most if not all of our current members needs. This includes the possibility of providing some moorings for boats. Heavy ground work is going to be necessary to deal with issues like the water table. On the bright side there is already direct access onto the land from the road and some hard standing exists. The rest is arable land, a bit wet perhaps but otherwise ideal for many crops.
